Ken Floyd was saved as a senior in high school. He was encouraged by members of his youth group to attend a Christian college as he prepared for a medical career. While he was attending Cedarville College he sensed God’s call into pastoral ministry. Ken and Sharon (McFaddin) became sweethearts during their senior year in high school in Springfield, OH. They were married during Ken’s senior year of college on November 20, 1976. Upon graduation from college, Ken received his theological training at Grace Theological Seminary. After having served in churches in Indiana and Ohio, Ken and Sharon came to North Park Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, and enjoyed God’s blessings upon that ministry for over 13 years. They have one daughter, Allison, an elementary teacher and graduate of Clarks Summit University. Allison and her husband Taylor live in northeast Ohio with their five children.
Along with his previous Senior Pastor responsibilities, Ken has served on the MARBC Council of Sixteen and is currently a member of the GARBC Council of 18. He served for fifteen years on the Trustee Board of Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA, and is a current member of the Pastors’ Advisory Council for Cedarville University. Ken is a founding board member of LEAD (formerly Closed Door Ministries) and served as chairman for the formation of the West Michigan Mission Consortium and a local chapter of LifeMatters. Ken has been a conference speaker for the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches, the Ohio Association of Regular Baptist Churches, as well as our own Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches. He has served as a speaker for four state men’s conferences and retreat. He has ministered in Alaska, India, and Ukraine.
Ken authored the men’s study devotional, Men at Play, and is a contributing author for the book The Pastor: A Guide for God’s Faithful Servant, both published by Regular Baptist Press (RBP). He is a frequent contributor to the Baptist Bulletin magazine, including a multi-part series on Prayer. Ken believes that we have a great potential to see dynamic growth through quality church planting initiatives in our MARBC. He sees himself as a resource person who will provide encouragement through “mini-conferences” that may be unique to a particular region of our Fellowship. This will enable Churches and Pastors, as well as other leaders in our Fellowship, to be more effective in ministry. He also hopes to see a greater connectedness and camaraderie between area Churches and Pastors by establishing mission and church-planting consortiums. Ken will also continue his writing and will deal with leadership issues, practical ministry ideas and encouragement for particular ministry needs.
