Dozens of teenagers, parents, and churches gathered at West Cannon Baptist Church on Saturday, April 25, for the annual MARBC Talents for Christ competition. Talents for Christ(TFC) helps teens in grades 9-12 to develop their God-given talents for ministry within the local church. It encourages students to prepare and to gain skill for serving the Lord.
Pastor Ken Pyne, Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor, continues his faithful service as the TFC coordinator. We greatly appreciate the diligent, effective leadership that Ken has given to TFC for many years. We thank Ken and his staff, the TFC judges, and the West Cannon Baptist Church family for making this a wonderful day for the teens and families of the MARBC.
Students participating in the competition could choose to compete in either the Scholarship or Open categories. Those competing in the Scholarship Division had the potential to qualify for scholarships from participating Christian colleges. First place winners in the Scholarship Division of the state competition receive a $1,000.00 scholarship and second place winners a $500.00 scholarship. First and second place winners earn the privilege to compete for additional scholarships at the national Talents for Christ competition held during the annual GARBC conference in Elyria, Ohio. National open (non-scholarship) competition takes place on Wednesday, June 24, for both group and individual open competitors. National scholarship competition follows on Thursday, June 25.
The Open category is for students desiring to develop their skills or students who do not plan to attend one of the participating colleges. We are grateful for the three MARBC partnering camps – Lake Ann, Lincoln Lake, and The Springs – who offer camp scholarships for first and second place winners in the Talents for Christ Open Division. We thank these camps for their assistance in encouraging our MARBC youth to use their talents for God’s glory.
We praise God for all of our MARBC teens who participated in this year’s event and encourage you to pray for those who will compete nationally in Elyria at the end of June.
