WITH THE LORD

Meryl Welch.  Mrs. Meryl E. Welch, age 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. As a young teenage musician, Meryl served her Lord in playing for many youth rallies. She was a marimba musician and was invited to serve in many weekly revival meetings in cities and churches of West Michigan. In 1942 she married Wilbert Welch, pastor of the North Casnovia Baptist Church, Bailey, MI. Both sensed the need for additional education, enrolling at Bob Jones University in 1943. While attending the university, they were called to serve at Calvary Baptist Church of Rome, GA where not only her husband served as the pastor, but Meryl became very involved in daily radio music broadcast ministry for seven days a week. During these years, five children were added to the Welch family. Following a five-year ministry in Rome, GA, there were ten fruitful years at Calvary Baptist of Muskegon. In 1959 Wilbert accepted a call to be president of the Grand Rapids Bible Institute. Meryl became deeply involved in the growth of the Institute to the current Cornerstone University. In reviewing these years of ministry with her husband, Meryl often stated that they both praise the Lord for the fruitful years He so graciously granted them. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Dr. W. Wilbert Welch, Ph.D.; children, Robert A. and Nancy Kay Welch, W. Curtis and Sandra Welch, and Dale T. and Marcia Welch, and Arlene and Joel Betts; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Music Department at Cornerstone University, 1001 East Beltline Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, MI. [Read more…]

“Fellowship”

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.” Philippians 1:3-7

Dear Friends of the Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches,

We extend heartfelt greetings to you from the MARBC Council of 16. The purpose of my letter is to give thanks for God’s blessings upon our association during our seventy-year partnership as a fellowship of churches and then to share a critical need with you on the back of this page. [Read more…]

“Rich”

Like the beautiful and colorful contrasts of the autumn leaves we have enjoyed this spectacular fall season and the sunrays that will glisten off new fallen snow this winter, we are blessed to observe the multi-colored aspects of God’s grace in the lives of MARBC churches and servants. Paul describes God’s handiwork in the lives of His children as being “according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us” (Ephesians 1:7-8). [Read more…]

Churches have no business addressing political questions. Their work is to proclaim the whole counsel of God. Christian individuals, however, are responsible to act upon moral and spiritual concerns before they address merely temporal ones. Matters of principle should take precedence over matters of preference. Therefore, part of the church’s business is to instruct the people of God in those moral principles that they must apply in their political decisions. In other words, while churches should not tell their members who to vote for, they should teach them how to vote. [Read more…]

Many churches and pastors feel called by scripture to “equip the saints” to represent Christ in all areas of our society, including the voting booth. Pastors should thus be supported in their goal of helping their members be good stewards in representing Christ in their civic duties. This is especially important in light of the fact that only 1 out of every 4 Christians in America is voting. [Read more…]

“Faith”

“The just shall live by faith.” Hebrews 10:38

The New Testament letter of Hebrews places a great emphasis upon the importance of faith in Jesus Christ as the only acceptable way to salvation. It also places a great emphasis upon how a Christian’s faith is to be demonstrated in daily living. Hebrews 11 is popularly known as “The Hall of Faith” because it notes the characteristics of those who have walked by faith. [Read more…]
